PFA Bares New Set of Board, Officers
With the impending ASEAN Economic integration in 2015, which is expected to create a more challenging business climate, the Philippine franchise sector remains vibrant as it continues to be the nation’s strong ally in nation building and economic development.
With this at the backdrop, the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA), a proud member of Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC) and the World Franchise Council (WFC) and the acknowledged voluntary self-regulating governing body for franchising in the Philippines, takes pride in naming its new set of Board and Officers for 2013-2015.
Elected as PFA president is Franklin L. Go, the vice president of Goldilocks—a global brand with more than 400 local and international stores. Go will play a pivotal role especially on reinforcing PFA’s commitment to creating programs that will open opportunities for the expansion of Philippine franchises domestically and overseas—key of which is by assisting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including the development of incubation centers where highly franchiseable concepts can be introduced to the mainstream market.
A zealous supporter of PFA programs, Go has actively participated and led various PFA projects and programs, the most recent of which is Overall Chair of the highly successful Franchise Asia Philippines 2013 held last July. Go, together with the newly elected Board and Officers, sees a more dynamic sector that promotes franchising as a tool for economic development and nation-building, through enterprise development and employment generation.
In fact, the recent report (April 2013) released by APFC and WFC, the franchise sector employs over a million Filipinos in over 125,000 franchise outlets nationwide, which generated over 13 billion US dollar sales turnover.
Yvette Pardo-Orbeta, chairman of Wendy’s Philippines—one of the most popular fast food chains in the country today, has been named the new PFA chairperson. Orbeta, who was PFA president for two consecutive terms, shares with the new set of officers a renewed confidence in making the Philippines as the “Franchise Hub of Asia” by providing the gateway to the entry and export of world-class quality brands, products and services from Asia to the rest of the world.
The new set of PFA Board of Trustees and their respective committee assignments are as follows: Samie Lim (Blims Fine Furniture)—International Relations;—Robert F. Trota (Max’s Restaurant)—Filipino Global Brands; Vicente Gregorio (Shakey’s)—Marketing and Promotions; Bing Sibal-Limjoco (Francorp Philippines)—Education; Atty. Leo Dominguez (Quisumbing Torres Law Office)—Legal, Governance and Ethical Standards; Franklin Go (Goldilocks)—Membership Recruitment and Benefits); Kenneth Yang (McDonald’s Philippines)—Foreign Franchises; Martin Lorenzo (Pancake House)—Homegrown Franchises; Victor Paterno (7-Eleven)—National Development; Richard Sanz (Bar-B King)—MSME Promotions and Development; Dr. Alan Escalona (Fruit Magic)—External Relations & Advocacy; Ernesto Tanmantiong (Jollibee)—Research and Information; Johnny Que (Waffle Time)—Corporate Social Responsibility; Yvette Pardo-Orbeta (Wendy’s Philippines)—Special Projects; and Mauro Agustines (Mister Donut)—Allied Suppliers & Related Services.
PFA, the country’s pioneer and largest franchise association with members ranging from micro to large, both homegrown and international involved in food, retail, services and other types of businesses, stands firm and strong as its members are bound by the Fair Franchising Standards—a set of standards that the PFA members have adopted relating how PFA members must conduct the sale of their franchises.
